NIZWA, Oct 11 - Dr Hamoud bin Khalfan al Harthi, Undersecretary for Education and Curricula in the Ministry of Education, visited Al Dakhiliyah, last week. He met the heads of educational supervision departments, senior supervisors and senior teachers in the governorate to discuss the development of curricula and observe work at schools.

A meeting was held at General Directorate of Education in Al Dakhiliyah in the presence of Sulaiman bin Abdullah al Salmi, Director General of Education in the governorate; Saif bin Hamad al Abdali, Director of Human Resources Development; and managers of curriculum departments at the Ministry of Education, accompanying the undersecretary.

Dr Al Harthi said the visit was part of the series of visits to various governorates in order to get a closer look at the progress of the educational process.

He said the Ministry of Education pays great attention to the school curricula and modify them from time to time to fit the requirements of public life. “And in some cases, change the curriculum completely.”

He said: “The ministry seeks to make the Omani curricula suitable for the students’ abilities.”

The discussions dwelt on the professional development of teachers. He stressed the importance of focusing on teacher training. He pointed at the importance of teacher guide, which will enable them to prepare and teach subjects in a correct and scientific manner.

He said the ministry will continue to make efforts to develop curricula and upgrade it.

Dr Al Harthi discussed the challenges facing modernisation of curricula. He said: “The Omani curricula take into account the philosophy and culture of Omani society and its values. These approaches seek to keep up with the world, which requires patience from the community. The ministry continues to innovate and develop when necessary.”

The meet included presentations from Al Dakhiliyah teachers of different majors and their observations on the school curricula.

The undersecretary also visited two schools – the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Masoud School and the Saih Al Barakat School in Manah.

He listened to the progress of educational process, the schools’ efforts to raise the level of academic achievement as well as the educational activities practised in these schools.
