Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Indian expatriates living in Oman have a “greater role to play in building a modern India while remaining loyal to the country where they are living and working”. Addressing a gathering of nearly 13,000 Indian expat population at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, he said Oman-India relations are making huge strides in all spheres, including diplomatic, defence and trade. “They are poised to scale greater heights. Thanks to the seafarers who established relations between the two nations,” he said.

Recalling the sea trade between Oman and India thousands of years ago, he described the sailors of both countries as the “first ambassadors of bilateral relations”. “India is a land of opportunities for doing business and making investments. We are sparing no stone unturned in attracting FDI to the country,” he said. Modi was earlier accorded a warm welcome by a high-level Omani ministerial delegation led by His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, at the Royal Airport in Muscat.
