MMMWR prioritising work on municipal water works

MUSCAT: Ahmed bin Abdullah al Shuhi, Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, said that with the advent of the glorious November and the Sultanate’s celebration of the 47th National Day we are honoured to extend to His Majesty sincere congratulations on this national occasion, praying to the Almighty Allah to return this occasion and His Majesty is blessed with health and long life.


He added that in line with the development plans in the Sultanate, the government’s approach towards upgrading and developing the services, the Ministry of Municipalities and Water Resources is prioritising work on the development of municipal and water work system in order to provide services of quality and efficiency in line with its vision.


The electronic transformation of the ministry is a significant progress in terms of improving and simplifying the work procedures, in which the ministry has completed various stages of completion and has completed the operation of a number of projects that have contributed to the efficiency of performance and enhance the infrastructure of networks and information security.


The Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources pointed out that the length of the roads implemented during 2017 amounted to about 125 kilometres, including internal roads and industrial layouts and road links to facilitate the citizens and residents to move easily.


He stressed that the provision of healthy food and consumer protection is one of the priorities and fundamentals of the ministry’s work on the health side in order to keep abreast of the developments and rapid growth in the food industries and various veterinary activities.


He added that the regulations and legislations that protect consumers from pollution, corruption or commercial fraud have been put in place. The Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources pointed out that the ministry has paid great attention to the water resources sector through the implementation of several development projects and taking measures aimed at optimising the utilisation of water resources and the maintenance and rehabilitation of Aflaj, springs and drilling wells, for flood protection and groundwater recharge purposes and to provide villages with their water needs.


He added that the number of Aflaj in the Sultanate of different types totalled 4,112. The government has paid particular attention to maintaining the Aflaj and its system and keeping its channels from collapsing as an urban heritage, adding that budgets have been allocated to achieve this in accordance with the plans and regulations.


Al Shuhi praised the efforts of the citizens in their role in caring for and preserving the Aflaj as an authentic cultural heritage that requires cooperation and solidarity in order to ensure continuity in current and future flow. — ONA
