MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has set today as deadline for receiving Al Busoor harvest for this year from all the governorates of the Sultanate of the three types (Al Mabsali, Al Madlooki, and Abu Narnja) in the Ministry’s stores in Al Wadi Al Kabir in accordance with the procedures in place in the past years.

This comes as a continuation of the approach and role played by the ministry through providing government subsidy to the farmers supplying the Ministry, as well as providing subsidy to farmers who will export their products from this year’s crop to foreign markets directly to encourage them to find alternatives and new markets in which the product is distributed.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry called upon farmers to pay attention to the quality of the product that is supplied to the ministry or which is exported directly by them to the foreign markets by paying attention to being clean of all impurities to maintain its known reputation and compete in the local and foreign markets.

The ministry also called to change some types of Al Busoor into dates due to the needs of local and foreign markets and factories for dates and because they are better economically than their production as busoor.

The Ministry also calls upon farmers to strive to increase the export of their products from Al Busoor crop in their own way. The farmers who will export their products from this year’s crop will be exempted from the government subsidy, which is set at RO 62 and 500 baisas per tonne If the farmer sells his crop to one of the traders or to one of his fellow farmers to be exported abroad through them instead, it requires the farmer to obtain a bill to sell or enter into a contract between him and the source to prove and guarantee his entitlement to receive the amount of government subsidy.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has started receiving the 2017 crop in all three types (Al Mabsali, Al Madlooki, and Abu Narnja) since October 15, 2016. — ONA
