Ministry steps in to rescue Arab expat child abused at home

The Ministry of Social Development said that it received a notification through the child protection hotline number 1100, that a child of an Arab nationality residing in the Sultanate was subjected to abuse and neglect by his stepmother of an Asian nationality. The family protection department immediately took action and inspected the child in accordance with the Child Law issued by Royal Decree No. 22/2014.


According to a tweet from the Ministry, the 12-year-old boy was brutally assaulted on his body, apart from a broken feet as he tried to flee the house.


In coordination with the relevant security authorities, the child was taken to the doctors for necessary treatment for him, and later admitted to the child rehabitation centre. A home he was forced to do domestic work despite young age, and also physically assaulted if failed to do so. As a result he was suffering serious psychological problems . The Ministry of Social Development thanked agencies and individuals who reported this case of abuse. It said protection is provided to all segments of society irrespective of the nationality in the event of a case of abuse
