Ministry of Health conducts workshop on hand injuries

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health represented by the Department of Hospital Affairs and Specialised Medical Centres at the Directorate General of Specialised Medical Care, and in collaboration with Hand Surgery department and Reconstructive Surgery department at Khoula hospital, the Omani Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (OSPRAS), and the Omani Society for Surgery of the Hand (OSSH) organised on Tuesday hand injuries workshop at the City Seasons hotel with the presence of Dr Kadhim Jaffar, Director-General of Specialised Medical Care.


Around 90 emergency, surgery, general physicians, and physiotherapists from Khoula and Royal Hospitals in addition to all the Sultanate’s hospitals in the different Governorates took part in the workshop.


The workshop aimed at developing hand injuries treatment services in all the Sultanate Hospitals and training physicians and participants on injured hand examination and the different types of hand injuries in addition to identifying cases that required transferring to the tertiary medical care hospitals.


The workshop underlined the role of Antibiotics, Emergency physicians, and physiotherapy in hand injuries management. The scientific programme addressed hand anatomy and examination as well as management of hand injuries including burns, fractures, human and animal bites, and infections. It further reviewed the therapeutic protocols for hand injuries, primary care involvement in following up treatment of hand fractures and burn therefore enhancing hand functions after injury.
