The MEDRC Fellowship programme is a unique initiative designed to support research capacity in Jordan and Palestine. It offers brilliant young researchers with the aptitude but without the means, the chance to further their studies in the field of water research. MEDRC recognises and supports excellence in water research in universities in the MENA region and has long believed that investing in talented students will have a hugely beneficial impact on the regions ability to work towards a secure and sustainable supply of water for all.

The MEDRC Alumni lecture series due to take place on May 22 in Al Hail, Muscat, and will offer talented MEDRC Alumni the opportunity to present their research outputs to a wider audience, to explore the use of their outcomes and to exchange knowledge with their counterparts.

The honour of delivering these lectures went to Alham Walid al Shurafat, of Jordan University of Science and Technology, Jordan and Hana Jardaneh, of An-Najah National University, Palestine. Both students are brilliant young researchers from the MEDRC fellowship programme, which provides funding to students pursuing Master of Science and Doctoral degrees at partner universities in Palestine and Jordan, in coordination with the Palestinian Water Authority and the Jordan Valley Water Authority to address immediate and relevant water issues. In addition, two other lectures were given by students from Sultan Qaboos University: Ahmed al Mayahi and Dr Muna al Hinai.

The event acts as an important platform and opportunity for peer learning, networking, bringing different perspectives together and helping to create opportunities for future collaboration for the alumni and students. Among institutions represented at the event will be; JUST (Jordan), An-Najah (Palestine), SQU (Oman), Pennsylvania State University (USA), University of Queensland (Australia), International Maritime College of Oman, Caledonian College of Engineering (Oman), The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Haya Water.
