Media role in development stressed

MUSCAT: Abdulaziz bin Mohammed al Rowas, Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs, met in his office on Thursday with members of the new Board of Directors of Oman Journalists Association (OJA), headed by Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak al Araimi. The meeting comes as part of coordinated efforts among government institutions and civil establishments to carry out their responsibilities in society successfully and achieve further progress.


Al Rowas congratulated OJA’s new Board of Directors and wished its members success in their assignments and role in upgrading the journalistic work, extending bridges of communication and achieving best levels of national cooperation for the progress and renaissance of the country.


Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs affirmed that journalism in the Sultanate enjoys an important place and care due to its major role in serving the Omani community and enhancing the spirit of citizenship. He expressed his satisfaction over the level and good reputation attained by journalism in the country. He also commended the good attempts being made by journalists in adopting issues that serve the country and citizens.


The meeting touched on the efforts to be exerted by the OJA to support the march of the journalistic work. It also addressed the major challenges being faced by the association, as well as means of promoting cooperation between the OJA and the Ministry of Information.


Members of the OJA Board of Directors expressed their thanks and appreciation for the role of the Ministry of Information in supporting OJA’s internal and external activities, as well as the programmes being conducted in various fields. They also affirmed the continued cooperation between the OJA and the ministry to serve the media sector. — ONA
