Nizwa: The Media and Law Seminar, organised by the Higher Judicial Institute, was concluded on Wednesday under the patronage of Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information.
The seminar included a number of sessions on (The Jurisprudential and Social Perspective of the Media Work), (Legislation Regulating the Media Work) and (The legal Responsibility in the Field of Media).
The seminar came out with a set of recommendations, including the formulation of a jurisprudential theory of media along the lines of the well-known jurisprudential theories, to be a reference to the codes of honour of the media, the profession ethics and the legislation issued in the Islamic countries. The seminar also suggested that the media publication committee should be chaired by a judge, especially as it holds journalists accountable and impose sanctions on them. — ONA
