MathAlive!, the unique interactive math and science exhibition created by the Raytheon Company was opened at the Children Museum yesterday, February 13. The exhibition, designed to bring math and science to life for young students in primary and secondary schools, is both entertaining and educational.

Raya al Kindi, Director of Museum Department said, “We are excited to begin the year with this exhibition that will definitely enrich children’s experiences and hope that this partnership will mark the opening for further cooperation with other institutions, that are, primarily involved in education and science. In that context, we are grateful to Raytheon’s MathAlive! for the opportunity to bring the exhibition to Muscat.”

“We are very pleased to debut MathAlive! in Oman and contribute to the Sultanate’s growing investment in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education as it continues to build its knowledge-based economy under the framework of Oman Vision 2020”, said Les Bonde, president, Raytheon International, Inc in Oman.

Bonde added, “We believe the Children’s Museum is the ideal venue for engaging young Omanis through the exhibition’s fun and interactive modules. We look forward to a successful run of MathAlive! in the Sultanate, and we thank our hosts and partners at the museum and the Ministry of Heritage and Culture for their ongoing support.”

MathAlive! is Raytheon’s premier travelling educational exhibition, designed to show the math in an enjoyable way to students. The exhibition was first opened at Washington, DC’s Smithsonian International Gallery in 2012, offering a wide range of interactive modules in six themed galleries that demonstrate the relationship between STEM and activities such as building design, football, space travel, video games and more — bringing math and science to life for late primary and early secondary school students.

MathAlive! began a tour at the Gulf region in 2013, and has since received approximately 300,000 visitors across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. Designed specifically for the region, MathAlive! offers exciting activities in both Arabic and English. Along with the incorporation of Middle East-focused cultural imagery, landmarks and customs, the exhibition also includes brief video profiles of people in the region who are involved in interesting careers that rely on mathematics.
