Muscat: The Capital Market Authority (CMA) today discussed the application of health insurance to workers in the oil and gas sector.

The meeting addressed a number of questions related to health insurance and said 'companies with private clinics in areas where there are no health services will be granted a deadline until such time as an appropriate mechanism is found to include these companies in the stages of applying health insurance.'

A question was asked about the companies operating in the oil and gas sector that provide training to a number of students to be employed in these companies after the end of the training period. During their training they are registered as employees in the companies despite not doing any work, how will they deal with them? The reply was that this category of workers is excluded from the list.

There are a number of small companies, called as contractors, with a number of workers operating for bigger companies. Sometimes the operator provides health services to these contractors, but imposing health insurance on them will be an additional burden, how will they deal with them?
A single insurance portfolio should be created for contractors operating for large companies, which will contribute to reducing the cost of health insurance to employers.
