With technological advances, people have to be careful whenever they provide the details of their whereabouts. Nowadays technology has advanced on the phone so much so that they enable individuals to know their current location with increased accuracy.

As we approach 2017, one thing has remained interestingly conspicuous– mobile phones. These are actually fantastic gadget and I wonder how our grandparents survived without them.

However there is one negative thing that they have brought to people. Unfortunately many people have made mobile phones objects of choice whenever they want to tell a lie.

Since these handy devices are mobile, as their name suggests, people move with them everywhere they go. This envisages almost a silent rule that makes people never to tell exactly where they are especially when running late for a meeting.

You may be waiting for someone in Seeb and when you make a call to enquire where that person is, chances are that the answer will be a lie. Someone having coffee in a busy coffee shop in Qurum is likely to tell you that he or she is stuck in traffic Jam in Hamriya.

You may be shocked if you hear one person in front of a mall in Ghubra loudly saying on his/her phone that he/she was about to reach Wadi Kabeer and would be in Bustan within the next 20 minutes.

You see him/her hang- up and slowly walks to the car parking lot and looks so innocent that one could have thought he/she has the miracle powers.

At one of the fast foods restaurant in al Khuwair, I overheard a middle aged man wearing a tie saying that he was in a noisy street in Ghala. Pausing to take a bite of a burger while looking outside, he went on to complain about the terrible city traffic jam.

Apparently, it was the boss who had called him to check on how good the warehouse sale is.

And then there comes a time when a husband avoids picking the phone call from a wife.

Quite naturally, these husbands have to, later on; explain why they failed to answer the phone.

So they cook up something like this: - “You see my lovely dear wife- the only one wife that I have, the only mother of my children; I missed your call because I had gone out with my friend for a walk at the beach.

Then we met one man I had not seen for ages. He invited us to his house and made some barbecue for us and we stayed late. And all this time my phone was on silent”.

Another husband’s story might go like this: - “Mother of my children, the wife that I have never slapped, and the jewel that forgives all my mistakes. You could not reach me on phone because I was in meeting with the boss of my boss discussing how to meet one debtor who owes our company R.O 100,000. We went where we were supposed to meet but in this place there was no network. And that is the reason why my phone was off line”.

But with technological advances, people have to be careful whenever they provide the details of their whereabouts.

Nowadays technology has advanced on the phone so much so that they enable individuals to know their current location with increased accuracy. Phones have positioning satellites that can now track the exact location of devices in a matter of seconds.

Jokes aside, personal integrity - the quality of being honest with yourself and others - is very important. In its faculty, it is clear that lying is wrong. Things fall apart so easily when they have been held together with lies; destroying our ability to connect with others. Remember - honesty is the mother of all policies. Enjoy your weekend!
