By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: Jan 18 -Isolated rain and occasional thundershowers are likely over governorates of Muscat, Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiyah and along Al Hajar Mountains from Thursday and continue for the next three days, according to weather experts. According to Met office, there are chances of early morning low-level clouds or patches of fog over governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar. Weather analysis from the National Multi-Hazard and Early Warning Centre shows an effect of a trough of low pressure system over the Sultanate.

Sea is expected to be “moderate to rough” in the coastal areas of Musandam and Sea of Oman with a maximum wave height of 2.5 metres. The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) has advised the public to follow the weather bulletins and take precautions while sailing. Meanwhile, the much-awaited winter rain arrived on Wednesday, to the relief of many. Musandam was the starting point, with Qurayat, south of Muscat Governorate, receiving good amount of rain. Rustaq witnessed light drizzle in the evening.

“Oman Sea is expected to see high waves rising to a height of 2.5 metres. Heavy rain is expected on Friday in Musandam and North Batinah. Although rains are mainly focused in the coastal areas and the wadis located near mountains, there is a likelihood of some wadis overflowing, especially in Musandam and North Batinah,” said Mohammed bin Hamoud al Siyabi, weather expert. Rain is also likely in Sharqiyah. The day began with partly cloudy skies over Musandam Governorate and Oman Sea coasts with chance of isolated rain. Clouds developed over Al Hajar Mountains towards afternoon. Low-level clouds or patches of clouds were seen early morning over governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta.
