Low pressure brings rains in Sultanate

By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: March 21 - After the Tuesday downpour the trough of low pressure is expected to weaken on Wednesday and Thursday and expected to gain strength by Friday and Saturday, according to Public Authority for Civil Aviation. The highest amount of rainfall was recorded in Mahdha, Al Buraimi with 23.6 mm, followed by Bukha in Musandam 14 mm, Khasab airport 9.4 mm, Shinas in North Al Batinah 8 mm and Dhank in Al Dhahirah with 7.5 mm until 4 pm on Tuesday.

Although the trough is to weaken on Wednesday and Thursday reducing rainfall in Buraimi, Dhahirah and Musandam, there are chances of rain in Al Wusta and Al Sharqiyah. Muscat is also expected to have showers on Tuesday night and on Wednesday. Rustaq got its share of rains right from Tuesday morning and the Met office sent out an advisory for Muscat and Rustaq on thundershowers. The Met office also warned of poor visibility during thundershowers, fresh downdraft wind and hail. The sea condition is expected to be moderate and the prevailing wind is south-easterly, according to the weather forecaster.

The highest temperature on Tuesday was recorded in Rustaq and Fahud with 35 degrees Celsius and the lowest was recorded in Jabal Shams with 16 degree Celsius. The weather forecast for Wednesday states that cloudy skies are expected over governorates of Muscat, North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar with chances of isolated rain occasionally accompanied by thundershowers with fresh wind downdraft and hail. Clear to partly cloudy skies are expected over Al Wusta and Dhofar with chances of isolated rain.
