Local tourist spots draw holidayers

Muscat, Dec 2 - The domestic tourist sites in Oman witnessed heavy footfalls from domestic and tourists from the other GCC countries. At the same time, there was a call for legal action against visitors who litter public places. According to statistics received, the scientific centre at the Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve received 604 visitors on December 1, the first day of long weekend, including 312 Omanis, 182 Asians and 110 guests from different European countries. The Department of Tourism in South Al Batinah carried out a cleaning drive on the coast of Al Sawadi area in Barka in cooperation with the Barka Municipality and Jabal al Sawadi Team.


Statistics revealed that Musandam Governorate received 2,000 visitors through its port at Dibba. They also visited a number of forts in the region. A total of 3,287 tourists from different nationalities visited Wadi Bani Khalid on December 1, including 1,284 Omanis, 1,271 Asian nationals, 210 Arab nationals, 428 Europeans and 94 from the GCC. According to STR Global’s report, Muscat hotels had great success in the month of October in terms of occupancy, which stood at 74 per cent, compared with 62 per cent during the same period a year ago. A car competition was organised in Sur on Saturday, which was witnessed by a large number of local residents.
