Livestock, animal feed may be imported from Paraguay

MUSCAT: Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, received in his office on Wednesday Gustavo Leite, Minister of Industry and Commerce in the Republic of Paraguay. The two sides discussed the possibility to import livestock and animal feed from Paraguay and exporting urea fertilizer and fuels to Paraguay. Further, the two sides touched on cooperation in the fields of metrology and standards, besides discussing means of enhancing trade between the two countries by using the Omani ports.


The Paraguayan Minister of Industry and Commerce is visiting the Sultanate currently, as per an invitation from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to explore means of commercial cooperation between the two countries and to hold meetings with the Omani officials and businessmen.


Meanwhile, Gustavo Leite also visited the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) in Rusayl Industrial Estate.


The minister was received by Hilal bin Hamad al Hasani, Chief Executive Officer of PEIE, who gave a brief on PEIE and highlighted its vision, which is to enhance the Sultanate’s position as a leading regional centre of manufacturing, ICT, innovation and entrepreneurship excellence, and its mission in attracting industrial investments and providing continued support, through regionally and globally competitive strategies, good infrastructure, value adding services, and easy governmental processes.


The Paraguayan Minister of Industry and Commerce was also acquainted with the role played by the Knowledge Oasis Muscat to develop an ideal environment for the growth and prosperity of companies specialised in the field of Information and Communication Technology in the Sultanate.


The delegation was also familirised with Al Mazunah Free Zone, which was established under Royal Decree No 103/2005 to operate under the management of PEIE.  The free zone is currently completing infrastructure work, in line with the international standards of the free zones. The strategic location of Al Mazunah Free Zone on the border of the Sultanate and Yemen makes it the Gulf gateway for transit trade to Yemen and Eastern Africa. — ONA
