Libya keen to benefit from Oman’s experiences

MUSCAT: An official session of talks between the Sultanate and Libya was held at the Council of Ministers HQs’ in Muscat on Thursday. His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, led the Omani side, while the Libyan side was led by Fayez Mustafa al Sarraj, Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya and Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Libya.


At the beginning of the talks, HH Sayyid Fahd reviewed the fraternal relations between the two countries and stressed the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples. He praised the efforts exerted by the GNA, which enjoys the confidence of the Libyan people, to promote all development paths in Libya. He stressed that the Sultanate supports all efforts to ensure the unity of Libyan territories.


For his part, the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya and Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Libya expressed his country’s appreciation to the Sultanate led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for its continued support to Libya and for hosting the meetings of the Committee for the preparation of the Libyan Constitution, in addition to the Sultanate’s keenness to ensure the success of all efforts to bring the parties together and unite the ranks to achieve the Libyan people security and stability and promote the march of construction and reconstruction.


The talks session dealt with a number of issues that would enhance bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate and Libya in the economic and investment fields, activate joint agreements between the two sides and benefit from the Sultanate’s experiences in various fields, including service and infrastructure.


The meeting discussed a number of regional and international issues. It reviewed developments in the region and efforts to deal with them.


Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Minister of Information attended the meeting from the Omani side. On the Libyan side it was attended by the Libyan Foreign Minister, the Political Adviser to the Chairman, the Media Adviser to the Chairman, the Special Secretary of the Chairman and the charge d’affaires of the Libyan Embassy in the Sultanate.


LUNCHEON FOR THE GUEST


HH Sayyid Fahd hosted a luncheon in honour of Fayez Mustafa al Sarraj and his delegation.


The luncheon was attended by a number of ministers and other senior officials.


MEETING WITH BUSINESSMEN


Al Sarraj and his delegation met with Omani businessmen at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Muscat.


The meeting reviewed the opportunities available in the economic and investment fields in both countries, activate the joint agreements between them and benefit from the experiences of the Sultanate in the fields of service and infrastructure that will enhance bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate and Libya.


Al Sarraj said his visit to the Sultanate comes to enhance the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and seek to activate the joint agreements between the Sultanate and Libya in various economic fields, including the oil and gas sectors and infrastructure, which will provide an opportunity for Omani businessmen and their Libyan counterparts to invest in joint projects.


In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he praised the positive role played by the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to contribute to overcoming the Libyan crisis by hosting the work of the Libyan Constituent Assembly of the Constitution.


VISIT TO MONUMENTS


Later, Al Sarraj toured the Royal Opera House Muscat. During the visit, the guest and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the house, its facilities and programmes during the year.


Meanwhile, Mohamed al Taher Hamouda, Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and the National Museum in Muscat, within the framework of the current visit of Fayez Mustafa al Sarraj.
