NIZWA: The Higher Judicial Institute (HJI) on Wednesday celebrated the graduation of the second batch of students from a training course on the settlement of labour disputes under the auspices of Shaikh Majid bin Khalifa al Harthi, Wali of Samayil.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Dr Majid bin Nasser al Mahrouqi, Director of Teaching and Training Department at the Higher Judicial Institute, said the training course is a culmination of joint efforts between the HJI and the Ministry of Manpower represented by the initiative for the improvement of the judicial system vis-à-vis the local labour market, one of the initiatives produced by the labour markets labs (Tanfeedh).

The training course was aimed at acquainting the participants with the Labour Law as well as the provisions of the employment contract, ways and skills of settling labour disputes, arbitration and negotiation skills.

For the course to be extremely beneficial, it combined knowledge and practice in all its topics and contents, Al Mahrouqi said.

The course was noted for its increased hours of practical training so as to strike a balance between theory on one hand and training on the other.

The course was concluded with a discussion session titled, “How to Limit Labour Disputes” as the participants were asked to identify queries related to labour disputes in advance which were answered by judges and officials from the Ministry of Manpower.
