Muscat: Khoula Hospital, represented by the Orthopedic Department, performed recently the first arthroscopic hip joint surgery at the level of the Ministry of Health institutions for a patient admitted at the Hospital.

Dr Suwailem al Ghanami, Joint Surgery and Sports Injuries Consultant at Khoula Hospital said, "This procedure has been performed for a patient has a sport injury in the hip joint.

All non-operative measures have been taken for the patient but was not enough for healing".

Dr Al Ghanami added that this arthroscopic was provided for such procedures and a specialized team in the Hospital was trained.

He pointed out that the operation lasted for four hours and the patient left the hospital in the next day.

This new technology is a qualitative leap in the health services in the Sultanate.

The arthroscopic hip joint surgery is technically difficult,

but had not been available for the patients as such procedures were

previously performed by the surgical operation.

Due to the advancements of the hip joint arthroscopy, it helped to become less intervention to diagnosis and treatment of hip diseases, and also easy to perform the procedure at minimal side effects. --ONA
