Muscat, July 2 -

Fifty individuals with disabilities and those coming under social security were hired by the private sector across the Sultanate in the first three months of the current year, according to the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD). Until the end of 2016, 151 people from social security families joined private institutions, including 62 people with disabilities.

Hiring the disabled reflects the cooperation between the MoSD and the Ministry of Manpower to ensure their integration in society and to provide a sustainable source of income for social security families.

The hirees went through a ‘rehabilitation process’ at the Disabled Care and Rehabilitation Centre according to their professions and abilities as per the job requirements.

The centre offers education, training and rehabilitation programmes in different professions and skills such as sewing, blacksmithy, painting, computers, family education and decoration. It aims at social equality and integration between the disabled and members of society.

The centre, located in Al Khoudh, was established in 1987.

It has been receiving persons with disability from the age of 14 to 30 years.

It offers them comprehensive social care, including accommodation, food and treatment as well as a monthly assistance of RO 15 per student.

It conducts vocational guidance and evaluation for the disabled and provides social, psychological, rehabilitation and medical services to help the disabled adapt and integrate with society.
