MUSCAT: Jay Odedara made vital contributions with bat and ball to help Oman beat USA by 89 runs in the day-night game to clinch the three-match series 2-0 at the lush green Ministry of Sports ground 1 in Al Amerat on Tuesday.

Oman had won the first game by 117 runs on Monday. The third and final match will be played on Thursday.

Opting to bat first on a chilly afternoon, Oman struggled to find its feet against some tight USA bowling, slumping to 97 for 5 by the 25th over despite fluent knocks of 39 each by Arun Poulose and Jatinder Singh. However, late contributions from Odedara, captain Sultan Ahmed and Ahmed Fayyaz Butt propelled Oman to a fighting 189 for 9 in 50 overs. TK Patel led the bowling honours for USA, bagging four wickets for 28 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

Hoping to level the series 1-1, USA failed to put up a fight and folded up for a meagre 100 in the 41st over. Ravi Timbawala topscored with a laborious 23 off 65 balls. Khawar Ali was once again among wickets, taking three wickets. Ajay Lalcheta, Jay Odedara and Bilal Khan all bagged two wickets each.

Brief scores: Oman 189 for 9 in 50 overs (Arun Poulose 39 – 5x4, Jatinder Singh 39 – 4x4, 1x6, Jay Odedara 38 – 4x4, Sultan Ahmed 24 – 2x4, Ahmed Fayyaz Butt 22 – 2x4. TK Patel 4-28) defeated USA 100 all out in 40.1 overs (Ravi Timbawala 23. Khawar Ali 3-21, Ajay Lalcheta 2-13, Jay Odedara 2-19, Bilal Khan 2-27) by 89 runs.
