Jamaica’s Duane clinches Pinoy Chess Club title

Muscat: Duane Rowe from Jamaica emerged victorious in the second Pinoy Chess Club tournament held at Panaroma Mall, Bausher here on Friday. The Saladmaster sponsored open rapid chess tournament conducted in cooperation with the Oman Chess Committee saw 50 players from various nationalities fighting for top honours.


The tournament saw some exciting chess skills on display from the young and experienced. The prizes were given away to the winners by Hector of Saladmaster and Mussalim office bearer of the Oman chess committee winners in various categories.

The highlight of the tournament was the victory of eight and a half year old Velavaa Raghavesh of Indian School Seeb against his opponent Siddharth Gopakumar who had an ELO rating of 1935. There are greater glories in store for the eight and a half year-old in the days ahead.
