Jail, fine, and deportation verdict for preparing 'unfit' food

Muscat: The Court of First Instance in Rustaq recently sentenced two people for violating the Consumer Protection Act and the penalties included conviction, fine, imprisoned and deportation.


As per the details. the consumer protection department in Rustaq was informed that a few unlicensed Asian expatriates have been preparing meals for commercial purposes in unhealthy conditions in places unsuitable for cooking.


A raid was conducted in cooperation with the Public Prosecution and the Royal Oman Police and the defendants were arrested.


Following the procedures, the case was transferred to the Public Prosecution and then referred to the competent court, which issued then pronounced its verdict.


The accused were charged of violating the Consumer Protection Law in the preparation of meals that were then sold to the consumers.


The first accused was sentenced to three months jail and the second accused for four months and along with a fine of RO500. The court ordered that all the seized properties to be destroyed and the accused be deported at end of their jail sentences.
