MUSCAT, April 24 - COMEX 2018 on the second day witnessed the signing of two agreements between the Information Technology Authority’s Sas Center for Mobile Apps Development and TRC’s Oman Animal and Plant Genetics Resources Center (OAPGRC) and an MoU with Towell’s Ajyal Al Mustaqbal. The agreement between ITA and OAPGRC addresses the development of a mobile biodiversity app to be developed by ITA’s Sas Center for Mobile Apps Development.

Commenting on the agreement, Abdullah bin Ali al Rawahi, Deputy Executive Director of Support Services at OAPGRC, stated: “Developing the application will help experts and researchers in sharing photos of nature and species from Oman fields which will develop the centres’s database.”

The application will assist users with technology to capture and upload images of Omani plants, animals and marine species. Its database will categorise the species according to its common and scientific names and identify its location with GPS.

Muhannad al Nabi, Director of Sas Center for Mobile Apps Development, stated: “This agreement with TRC’s centre is a great opportunity for the centre’s students who will benefit from working on programming and coding the App. It enables people to identify plants or animals by capturing it through the app which will be sent later to the centre and the information will be sent back to the user. Users can also add information to the app.”

The centre also signed an MoU with Towell’s Ajyal Al Mustaqbal, to provide consultation, support and training to government and corporates on Mobile Application Development. It will also support young Omani graduates who have completed training at SASMOB and focus on the youth to maximise entrepreneurial channels of success and support the development of small enterprises in Oman.

On the importance of the MoU, Taqi Ali Sultan, General Manager of Towell’s Ajyal Al Mustaqbal, stated: “We aim to financially support students’ companies and smart application projects to transfer the creative ideas into successful businesses.”
