ISS students excel in Science India Fiesta

SALALAH: Indian School Salalah won the Science Debating Championship in Science India Fiesta: 2017. The event was held on May 12 and 13 at Indian School Wadi Kabir and Al Falaj Hotel by Science India Forum, Muscat.


The debating team comprised of Hridith Sudev, XII-A and Darin Peter Carvalho, XI-B in senior category and Sneha Hemnani, X-B and Elsa Nabi, IX-C in junior category.


Hridith and Sneha successfully opposed the motion ‘India’s Advancement in Space Technology is Enviable’ and thus, clinched first prizes in senior and junior categories respectively. Darin Peter Carvalho secured second position speaking for the motion in the senior category. The team defeated twenty four other debaters from Indian Schools across the Sultanate to win their prizes and consequently clinched the championship.


In addition to debate, a series of inter-school science competitions such as digital symposium, science skit, on-the-spot science project, photography, science project presentation, etc were held on May 12 at Indian School Wadi Kabir. Saurabh Singh of class XI was declared Sastra Prabha and was honoured with a trophy, gift and certificate. Naman Verma and Abhinav received A+ certificate while Shriram Jayashankar, Absal K A, Kesiya Sunil T, Arman Rashid and Savio Xavier secured A grade certificate for their performance in Sastra Pratibha examination which was held on November 13, 2016 in all 17 Indian schools in Oman.


Saurabh Singh and Kavin Raja C of XI represented the school in Digital Symposium on ‘Technology Leadership.’ The quiz team: Abhinav Sunil Prasad (class VI), Savio Xavier (class VII) and Ananya GV (class VIII) qualified for the finals.


The award ceremony was held at the Grand Al Falaj Hotel to honour the Shastra Pratibhas, Sastra Prabhas and to give away prizes to the winners of various competitions. Science India Fiesta: 2017 was organised aiming to promote and popularise science and technology among the students of Indian schools in Oman by Science India Forum, Muscat.


The event was held under the auspices of Indra Mani Pandey, India’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, in close association with Vigyana Bharathi, India.


The centre of attraction on the inaugural day was the interaction with the chief guest DRDO Scientist Padma Bhushan Dr A Sivathanu Pillai, Father of Brahmos missile. He spoke on ‘Achievements of India in the Field of Science — Past, Present and Future’. The chief guest, during the session asserted the need for practical and research based science education to make India advance in every field.
