MUSCAT: Indian School Al Ghubra celebrated with great fervour the 68th Republic Day on Thursday. The Chief Guest for the occasion was His Excellency Indra Mani Pandey, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman. Also present were Wilson George, Chairman — Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman, Ahmed Rayees, President — School Management Committee, members of SMC and other dignitaries. The celebration was marked by grandeur and dignity. It commenced with the singing of the National Anthem. The Chief Guest took the salute from a contingent of students. In his address the Chief Guest read out the President of India’s message to the Indian Nation. He encouraged the audience to reflect on the message which emphasises on the need to work hard for the progress of the nation.
The cultural show presented by the students of ISG on the theme ‘Tiranga’ or the National Tricolour mesmerised all present. It began with the school choir singing praises of the Indian flag. The students then depicted the evolution of the Indian National Flag in an attractive display. The presentation urged the audience to remember with gratitude and reverence the sacrifices of countless people who made India the Sovereign, Democratic, Republic that it is today. It reminded the audience of the principles of courage, unity and faith symbolised by saffron, white and green, the 3 colours of the Indian flag.
The show continued with students putting up performances which combined physical agility with music to produce the grace and beauty of synchronised movement. The backdrop of Sanchi Stupa added depth to the show. The rhythm and roll of the lezim show, the vigour and vitality of the performance with poles and the myriad of patterns formed using the colours of the National flag highlighted the core principle of ‘unity in diversity’ which is deeply embedded in the Indian psyche.
