MUSCAT: Quality Education is perceived and conceived by many educational institutions but achieved by very few.

Indian School Darsait (ISD) has joined the list of those few privileged institutions that have prioritised inclusive education as one of their goals. National Institute of Open School is a positive

step towards this inclusion as ISD becomes the first CBSE School in Oman to have acquired accreditation from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) — an autonomous institution under Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD, Government of India to run NIOS classes for the Secondary and Senior Secondary Classes.

The NIOS, one of the three National Boards, takes conscious steps to provide quality education and follows National Curriculum Framework brought out by NCERT.

The NIOS courses and programmes are functional, useful in daily life and also set the pathway for further studies as evident from the successful alumni of NIOS who pursue their higher studies in institutes of national and international repute such as IITs, Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia etc.

Principal, Dr Sridevi P Thashanth, appointed as the coordinator of the NIOS classes said, “It is with the help of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman, approval from Ministry of Education and support of School Management Committee that we are able to start this extended service which will offer a variety of courses for the students to choose from.

Students must opt for any four subjects other than English for Classes X and XII and a student must have attained a minimum age of 14 to register for Class X and 15 for Class XII.”

She added, “Students who are Indian Nationals across Oman unable to cope with main stream education can avail of this golden opportunity and register for the academic session 2017-18. Classes are likely to begin in a weeks’ time. Further details including the fee structure, timings, schedule of classes etc. can be obtained from the school office or from the school website — www.isdoman.com.”

It may be noted that students opting for NIOS in Class X have the advantage of joining formal School Board in Class XI after passing NIOS examination.

The certificate issued by NIOS is accepted by all the National & State Boards, all Universities and for Government jobs. However, certain Boards and Universities have fixed eligibility criteria based on their requirements and hence, candidates seeking admission may go through the eligibility criteria of different Boards/ Universities before taking admission.

Wilson V George, Chairman, BOD said, “We are happy that ISD is widening its horizon for Diaspora children in Oman. BOD has been encouraging equal opportunity for all children and it is heartening to see that with this initiative of extended educational services, ‘no child will be left behind’ which is the true essence of our education system.”
