MUSCAT: As part of its preparations to organise the Ironman 70.3 Oman championship, Ironman International has appointed AbdulAziz al Obidani as race director to the upcoming race. The race which is scheduled for March 1 within the capital, Muscat, will witness the participation of a number of international triathletes from around the world.
Al Obidani’s placement comes as recognition of the continued contribution that Al Obidani has brought to the international triathlon sports scene which has witnessed a number of key participations by him. Al Obidani’s role in organising international triathlon events has such paid off with his appointment as the race director.
Al Obidani’s first encounter with organising triathlons was at a mini-triathlon for kids held at Al Hail Beach in Al Seeb in 2013, which was continued for several years including 2014 and 2015. A full triathlon race was organised at Al Musannah in 2016 with the support of a number of Bahraini triathlon event specialists. The event led Al Obidani to be invited to be part of the prestigious team for organising triathlons across the region.
“I really harnessed plenty of knowledge and experience since joining the specialist team which in turn I will make ensure is implemented here at our own race” stated Al Obidani.
“Our goal was to bring this international sporting event to our country, and in succeeding to do so, we will make the necessary preparations to make sure that it is organised with the highest standards of the Ironman International brand and with Omani leadership,” he added.
In a statement by Ali al Tamimi, General Manager of Triathlon Middle East (TriMe), he said, “We’re delighted to appoint AbdulAziz as our race director as he brings several years of experience in organising triathlons across the region. We are very proud to have a young Omani triathlon pioneer such as AbdulAziz join our team to boost our efforts in hosting this prestigious sporting event.”
Ironman Oman continues in its preparations to organise the second edition of the IRONMAN triathlons races within the country following the organisation of the Ironman 5i50 in last November. With Ironman 70.3 Oman being scheduled to launch in March 1, 2019 under the leadership and operations of Al Obidani and his team along with the support of multiple public and private sector partners including Ministry of Tourism, Royal Oman Police, Muscat Municipality, OmanAir, Mwasalat, OMRAN, InterContinental Muscat, Crown Plaza OCEC, Badr Al Sama Hospitals and Global for Rental Cars it looks to be a very successful event.
