IPU chief hails Sultanate’s role in regional peace

MUSCAT: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, received Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), who expressed her greetings and good wishes to His Majesty the Sultan and for the government further progress.


At the beginning of the meeting, HH Sayyid Fahd hailed the role played by the IPU in cemeting the friendship among countries of the world, and affirmed the Sultanate’s keenness to support the efforts of the IPU to serve the interests of all countries.


HH Sayyid Fahd reviewed the shura experience and the positive achievements in the Sultanate. He noted that the Sultanate’s approach relies on its cultural heritage


while taking into consideration the needs of the age.


The conversation covered means of enhancing the relations between the IPU and the Council of Oman and expanding the fields of bilateral cooperation. The meeting also touched on the role of the IPU and the coordination made with parliamentary organisations.


On her part, Gabriela Cuevas Barron expressed her appreciation for visiting the Sultanate and reviewing its cultural renaissance and the achievements in many domains.


She stressed the esteem of all countries to the vital role played by the Sultanate under the wise leadership of His Majesty the Sultan and the efforts made to approximate views to limit regional tensions and contain their security and economic implications enhancing the values of tolerance and co-existence among peoples.


She also expressed the trust that their visit to the Sultanate and meetings with the Omani officials will have positive outcomes that augment international cooperation.


The meeting was attended by Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura and Mohammed bin Abu Bakr al Ghassani, Deputy Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura. — ONA
