MUSCAT: The first International women’s Tent Pegging Championship will begin on Friday in the Wilayat of Khasab, Musandam Governorate. The three-day championship is organised by the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF), with the participation of the Sultanate, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Australia and South Africa.

On the sidelines of the championship, meetings of the General Assembly of the ITPF, the meeting of the Executive Office and the meeting of the Board of Directors will be held, in addition to the new board elections for the next four years and the formation of the committees of the federation.

On Thursday, the draw for the championship was conducted using the cards bearing the number of horses available for the competition.

The riders then practiced with the horses at the track for the competition as they held final preparation on the eve of the first women’s championship.

The chairman of the International Tent Pegging Federation has previously praised the cooperation of the Royal Court, represented by the Royal Cavalry, the Royal Household, the Sultan of Oman Armour, the Royal Guard of Oman, the Royal Oman Police and the Oman Equestrian Federation.

The ITPF includes 32 countries from across the world, with the possibility of increasing the number of countries that have sent files to join the federation pending confirmation of accession. — ONA
