Inspection campaign for precious stone shops

MUSCAT: The Directorate General for Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will launch early next March the 2nd awareness and inspection campaign on precious stone shops. Building on the success made at the first campaign organized last year, the second campaign will conduct a survey for the precious stone shops and establish a database for manufacturing various kinds of stones. The campaign also includes meeting with managers and staff at such shops to highlight to them the importance of abiding by the provisions of the Royal Decree No 109/2000. The participants at the campaign will distribute publications and handouts that include valuable information. The campaign aims at spreading message of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and its role in enhancing awareness of Omanis and expatriates of the best possible ways to combat fraud in precious stones. It also aims at highlighting the law on selling precious stones in the Sultanate.  — ONA
