Indian school teachers awarded

MUSCAT: The prestigious ‘Navin Asher-Kazi Awards for Excellence in Teaching’ instituted by the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman, were conferred on 11 teachers from Indian Schools in the Sultanate at a ceremony held at Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir.


Dr Hamoud bin Khalfan al Harthy, Under-Secretary for Education and Curricula, Ministry of Education, was the chief guest and Shaikh Kanaksi Gokaladas Khimji was the guest of honour. Dr Yasmin Al Bulushi, Dean – Muscat College delivered the keynote address. The function was attended by the luminaries of Indian diaspora, officials from Ministry of Education, Members of the Board of Directors, Award Nominees, Members of the School Management Committees, Principals and senior staff of Indian Schools.


Wilson V George, Chairman, Board of Directors, welcomed the gathering and appreciated the commitment of teachers in providing value based education.


There were 71 teachers nominated from different Indian schools for the Awards. Five awards each went to first and second position holders respectively and one special award went to Apex Centre for Special education. First positions in each of the categories were Marifilis Michael D’Souza (Kindergarten-ISG), Seema Pereira (Primary – ISWK), Shenaz K Khodaiji (Middle – ISG), Jolly Moncy (Secondary / Senior Secondary – ISWK) and Lekha Jackson (Co-scholastic – IS Seeb). Special Award for the Centre for Special Education went to Rema Suresh Babu.
