MUSCAT: In commemoration of the 68th Republic Day of India, a hockey festival will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from 3 pm to 8 pm on January 20. This is the 10th year of celebration as this event is organised under the patronage Embassy of India and Ambassador of India Shri Indramani Pandey. It will be held in coordination with Oman Hockey Association (OHA), Future Group Muscat, Team Coorg Muscat and Friends of Naqvi Group.


Indramani Pandey will be the chief guest, the guest of honour will be Dr Hammad bin Hamed al Ghafri, Adviser, Ministry of Civil Services (former president of Oman Olympic Committee) and Captain Talib bin Khamis al Wahaibi, OHA Chairman.


Special guests are Dr Khami al Rahbi, Secretary-General of OHA, Madhushree Jesrani, Secretary-General, Oman Cricket.


The following teams have confirmed to participate for the Republic Day Cup and Ambassador Cup.


Republic Day Cup: Team Coorg Muscat, UTSC (Muscat), Beatrice XI /Omani XI.


Ambassador Cup: Ambassador’s XI, Indian School Al Seeb, Indian School Muscat, Indian School Wadi Kabir, Indian School Al Ghubra, Indian School Al Mabela and Indian School Darsait will participate with delegation for National Anthem.


The main sponsors are Future Plastics LLC (Future Group of Companies). Ahmed Hammad Hamed al Ghafri and Mohammed Nooruddeen are offering support to hockey and other sports.


The organisers will honour the following sponsors for their support.

The organisers will also honour the principals of six Indian Schools — Indian School Al Seeb, Indian School Muscat, Indian School Wadi Kabir, Indian School Darsait, Indian School Al Ghubra and Indian School Al Mabela — with other dignitaries, for promoting hockey for youth.


Ravi Jayanti has confirmed the participation of the Indian School Al Seeb choir for presentation of the National Anthems of India and Oman for the opening ceremony. The Principal of Indian School Muscat has confirmed the participation of Indian School Muscat Marching Band for the second time.


A children’s competition will be organised by the women’s section under the supervision of Kanchan Bijlani and her group and the participant certificates will be awarded to the children who correctly recite the Indian National Anthem.


The Indian Ambassador will honour youth personalities for their contribution to promote the event.
