Muscat, Feb 4 - Dar al Atta’a Let’s Read Programme is organising an art exhibition of more than hundred professional and amateur artists in Oman and from around the world at the Intercontinental Hotel on Tuesday.
Titled ‘Tastar Oman’, the art expo is unique where artworks will be displayed anonymously and sold to the audience. “Tastar Oman is a new concept for Oman where the name of the artist will only be revealed upon purchase of the same which is aimed at supporting the Dar al Atta’a”, said Eunice C Fernando, Director of Marketing & Communications.
“There will also be a silent auction of original and limited-edition prints by well-known artists. All funds raised by the Tastar Oman incognito art exhibition will be used to purchase books for the Maktabati mobile library programme.” The exhibition will be officially opened by Dr Ahmed Mohammed Obaid al Saidi, Minister of Health and will continue till Wednesday.
“We have been overwhelmed by the great response from talented local and international artists. We really appreciate all the artists who have taken the time to create and donate for this exhibition. We are grateful to the Intercontinental for hosting this event to raise money for the Dar Al Atta’a Let’s Read Programme”, Jane Jaffer, chairperson of Let’s Read said.
“The exhibition will offer a vast number of artistic genres with diverse subjects including portraits, landscapes, still life, wildlife and geometric patterns, in a variety of media such as oil, acrylic, water colours, pencil, ink, paper cut, calligraphy, embroidery and photography”, she added.
An strong array of acclaimed artists including David Webber, Alan Reed, Radhika Hamlai, Tarini Agarwal, Violet Astor, Bubbly Chowdry, Anna Dudchenko, Caty Cordahi, Karen Carpenter, Lynne Harkes, Pippa Edwards, Lesley Johnson, Sunny Shen, Debjani Bhardwaj, Kholoud Sabbak, Una Gibbons, Nadia Dalziel, Zahra Dawood, Asawari Deoras, Marie Landh, Mohamed al Rawahi, Hana Sarhan and Rachel Eapen are taking part in the event.
Founded under the auspices of Dar Al Atta’a in 2007, the Let’s Read Programme works to promote reading among children in Oman. Let’s Read founded the Maktabati mobile libraries, and the Let’s Read Children’s Library and Charity Book Shop are on the 3rd floor of Oman Avenues Mall.
