salalah: A 46-member Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for Young People (IAYP) team from Indian School Salalah took part in an adventure journey and expedition to the UAE from January 11-14. Escorted by three teachers, the team of students tried to understand and reflect upon the vast multitude of cultural, socio-political, geographical and climatic diversity of the Middle East’s most densely populated nation, the UAE.

The expedition began with a Dubai city tour marked with visits to resplendent mosques, Jumeira Beach, iconic Burj al Arab, and Dubai Museum followed by a lovely afternoon boat ride through the Dubai Creek, often dubbed as the lifeline of UAE. The team also had a dhow cruise experience and traditional Tannoura dance.

The Sharjah City tour on the second day was an equally enticing experience full of infotainment. The team got a glimpse of the Emarati culture as they witnessed the bulwarks of Arabian heritage like the Cultural Palace, Sharjah Library, the famous Quran Roundabout and the Diwan, following which they visited the heritage bazaar, Blue Souq and the pristine waters of the Sharjah Lagoon.

After having mind-boggling adventure of desert safari the team visited the world’s tallest standing garden, the Dubai Miracle Gardens, the Dubai Aquarium, Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa which is the world’s tallest skyscraper towering over Dubai like a silent sentinel with a sheer height of 828m. On the whole, the expedition to Dubai was a highly educative and entertaining journey for the students.
