Muscat, June 27 -

Temperature in Muscat dropped to the thirties this week mainly due to the rise in humidity levels, the Met Office has said.

Humidity has a strong effect in bringing down the temperature, it said.

There are chances of dust storms over deserts and open areas on Wednesday and Thursday.

The northern part of Oman is witnessing an advection of medium to high clouds because of the “deep Indian low” in the north of Arabian Sea.

According to the weather expert at Met Office, Public Authority for Civil Aviation, “The situation is normal because we are in the months of June and July. If the Indian low is deep, at times Oman and some Gulf countries experience these weather conditions.”

“Atmosphere in the low level is dry and hot. Humidity is concentrated in the coastal areas of Arabian Sea and the nearby areas. Mudhaibi, Nizwa, Bahla, Izki, Samayil are all dry,” said the weather expert.

Meanwhile, the Dhofar Governorate is gearing up for the khareef drizzle.

Salalah is facing monsoon winds and its air is moist.

When the wind hits the mountains of Dhofar, the process of drizzling will begin.

A “well-defined” wind direction is another key factor in the

process.

“The drizzle is not obvious as yet but by next week, it will be more defined,” said the Met Office.

The highest temperature was recorded at Dibba, Fahud, Rustaq and Sur at 47 degrees Celsius and the lowest in Jebel Shams at 28 degrees Celsius.
