By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Dec 28: From early next year, the Ministry of Housing will issue licences for real estate brokerages through its website. The decision is aimed at streamlining the system, apart from discouraging the illegal brokerage firms. To begin with, the new system will be implemented in Muscat Governorate. A final decision was made when the Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Housing, Saif bin Amer al Shaqsi, on Wednesday approved the e-system for issuing licences for practising real estate brokerage businesses early next year (2017) through the website www.housing.gov.om.

The system will allow real estate brokers and developers to practise real estate brokerage profession in an official manner through a licence issued by the Directorate-General of Real Estate Development.

The move is an attempt to regularise and legalise the real estate brokerage business.

Under the new system, which will be implemented in Muscat initially, real estate brokers currently registered with the ministry can pay fees and get the licence as well as the real estate brokerage card for individuals through the ministry’s website.

The ministry expects the real estate brokerage system to ensure stability in the real estate market and identify any irregularities.

It will also regularise the work of individual real estate brokers and real estate brokerage offices.

The initiative is expected to protect the real estate sector against illegal speculations that may lead to manipulation of prices to levels that do not match the supply and demand mechanisms.
