Hotel occupancy rate in Q1 hits 65.5pc

MUSCAT: Three to five star hotels’ occupancy rate at the first quarter of 2017 stood at 65.5 per cent as the total number of guests stood at 431,454 a growth of 18.3 per cent compared to the first quarter in 2016 according to the statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The total revenues stood at RO 57.049 million, a growth by 7.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2016. The occupancy rate grew by 0.3 per cent compared to the first quarter 2016. The European guests accounted for the bulk of the guests by the end of March 2017 to hit 201,882 compared to 155,684 guests by the end of March 2016; a growth by 29.7 per cent. The Omani guests came second with 107,995 at the end of March 2017 compared to 101,128 guests at the end of March 2016; a growth of 6.8 per cent. The Asians came third with 39,138, GCC guests came fourth with 37,222, Arabs from Non-GCC countries came fifth with 18,439, Americans came sixth with 14,697, guests from Oceania came seventh with 3,758 and 5,982 guests from other nationalities.  — ONA
