Higher education minister attends Mustafa (pbuh) award ceremony

TEHRAN: Dr Rawya bint Saud al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education, and her accompanying delegation on Sunday participated in the 2017 Mustafa (pbuh) Prize Award Ceremony in Tehran.


Coinciding with the birth anniversary of Great Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the biennial prize is aimed at enhancing scientific and technological cooperation between Islamic countries and addressing the problems of the Islamic world in areas of water and environment, energy, health, information technology and economics.


Professor Erol Gelenbe from Turkey and Professor Mohammad Amin Shokrollahi from Iran were the laureates of 2017 Mustafa (pbuh) Prize in Information and Communications Science and Technology and Information Theory.


The minister of higher education was accompanied by His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad bin Tareq al Said, Assistant Secretary General for Communication, The Research Council (TRC), Saud bin Ahmed al Barwani, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Iran, and representatives of the ministry of higher education, Sultan Qaboos University and TRC.


The minister of higher education met with Dr Sorena Sattari, Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology Affairs.


They reviewed a number of topics pertaining to science and technology including developing knowledge-based economy through innovation and creativity, exchanging experiences in setting up entrepreneurship projects and smart cities as well as cooperation in various areas such as medical research and sustainable energy. — ONA
