Health conditions in occupied Palestinian territory discussed

GENEVA: Deliberations of the 71st World Health Assembly began in Geneva on Monday with participation of more than 194 member states of the World Health Organization (WHO). The Sultanate’s delegation to the meetings is led by Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health. The meetings discuss the WHO work programme for 2019 to 2023, public health preparedness and response, as well as a report by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, on the health situation in the occupied Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan. It will also discuss providing health-related support and technical assistance to people in the occupied territories.


Further, it will look into the global work on patient safety in order to achieve comprehensive and effective health coverage, the Geneva Health Forum


2018, and the World Cancer Summit 2020, scheduled to be hosted by the Sultanate. Dr Al Saeedi will chair the Sultanate’s delegation in the 5th Technical Consultative meeting of the Arab Health Ministers, as well as meeting of health ministers of the member states at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on the sidelines of the assembly.  While in Geneva, the minister will meet with health ministers of Brunei Darussalam and Lithuania to discuss topics in health sector. — ONA
