Harbouring hatred

There are certain times when we reach a point of seeing a person becoming very friendly. Then we begin to believe in universal love and brotherhood. You feel the oneness, peace, love and unity with all people. But others would become such a nuisance to everybody else to the extent of causing hatred in the hearts of men and women.

Many would agree that its’ better to live in love rather than hate, but it’s always one’s choice. It may be hard choice, but it’s always there to be chosen. Any nuisance activity creates an unsafe environment and reduces the quality of life in a community. We should all endeavour to work things out with each other so that everyone is comfortable. It is difficult not to feel hatred in return. But we should work to eliminate all its traces because its direction is unproductive and against any preferred way of being and living. Love is avoiding being hated.

One of the diseases that need urgent cure is the feeling of superiority. That kind of feeling that one is greater to others in some way or another. A feeling that is rooted in an original experience of hate and feelings of dislike. When you see people earning more money, living in nicer homes or getting promoted at workplaces, you get that green-eyed monster which is commonly known as envy. It may seem that of all the disorders of the soul, envy is the only one no one confesses to. Most human find it hard to deal with envy. When those we know surpass us, it stirs up from inside thus generating hatred within.

Envy is an emotion that arises when a person lacks another’s (perceived) superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it. Envy stirs up ugly emotions making us wish we were them. Envy is one of the most intoxicating causes of unhappiness. It is a common and most unfortunate aspect of human nature because not only is the envious person rendered unhappy by his envy, but also wishes to inflict misfortune on others - a lose- lose situation.

After all has been said and done, we need to realize that it takes all sorts to make the world! - We will encounter the bad, the horrible, the nasty and many others. But to make a better world, we should be humble, show feelings towards others – be considerate and respect human values and rights. We need to reject any nuisance that targets people because of race, colour, origin or religion. We should rebuff the treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favour of or against, a person based on the group, class, or category to which the person is perceived to belong. The world respects us for our diversity and inclusiveness and the way we respect each other. My reverence goes to those who prove that even in a society where we can have disorganized, rude, inconsiderate beings, there is still a lot of room for order and humility.
