The GuTech (German University of Technology) celebrated the fifth anniversary of the visit of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to the campus and the university’s tenth anniversary.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud al Busaidi, Minister of the Royal Court and Chairman of the Council of Education.

A number of His Excellencies and members of the State Council and Board of Directors and stakeholders of the university were present.

His Majesty visited the GUtech on December 24, 2012.“Some 50 years ago, 95 per cent of the Omani population was not literate whereas today, almost the entire present generation is educated thanks to the wise education policies of HM,” said Rector Michael Modigell.

Modigell said: “His education policy is like the adage, ‘Give them not a fish, instead teach them how to fish’,” he added.

“His Majesty’s visit underlines his foresight and clear vision on how education can transform society.

His visit was a true inspiration to the students and faculty alike,” said Dr Abdurahiman al Salmi, a member of the board of directors.

He said the university is working hard to follow the directives of His Majesty to raise the level of higher education in the country.“We are striving to make higher education in the country on par with world’s renowned universities in the field of technology, science and engineering.”

The ceremony was held as part of the long educational process and distinguished relations between the two friendly countries, Oman and Germany.

Dignitaries lauded the efforts of the two countries in upholding the virtues of education.
