Govt studying Smart Media City project

April 29 – Dr Abdulmunim al Hasani, Minister of Information, said the government is studying in coordination with the private sector to create a Smart Media City in Oman. Replying to a question in Majlis A’Shura, he said a feasibility study was launched in 2015 and the staff were sent to various countries for comparative studies on the role of media cities.
He said the ministry is working on studying the opportunities for investment in the media sector, which is a prerequisite for the next phase of the media development in the Sultanate.
He said the government is making efforts to train its employees and all journalists and media professionals working in the public and private media sector to enable them to acquire various skills, which can be further enhanced through a Media Training Center.
The ministry has implemented a number of projects and initiatives, including the establishment of the Social Media Center and the completion of the Digital Transformation Project through the launch of an information portal in the coming months.
