Government Competency Programme inaugurated

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Civil Service, represented by the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) and in cooperation with Competence HR Company, inaugurated the third edition of the Government Competency Programme under the auspices of Shaikh Khalid bin Omar al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service. One of the major programmes being conducted by the Ministry of Civil Service, it targets directors general and their equivalents in the administrative apparatus of the state.


The programme deals with human resources development as it is the top priority in the planning process. Being conducted from December 2018 till May 2019 in four training days each month, the programme will be fully funded by private sector institutions, in cooperation with the IPA and Competence HR Company with the support of the Ministry of Oil and Gas and sponsored by a number of leading institutions in the Sultanate namely Shell, Towell Group, Oman Tourism Development (Omran), Omantel and Oman Post.


In general, the programme aims to develop leading figures with high potentials for change through acquiring many skills represented in understanding the government sector and developments in the management of government institutions, studying the best international practises in transforming the government sector into an effective and responsive sector and acquiring the practical experience to confidently face the real life, in addition to the ability to involve relevant entities to lead change in a positive way, developing individuals for the sake of developing performance, leading collaborative work across diverse teams professionally and culturally, and being capable of leading in a dynamic and rapidly growing environment.


The programme will include a range of workshops on professional and personal skills, including a workshop entitled ‘Inspiring Leader’ designed to enable the leader to develop clear goals and an effective communication method based on self-understanding and teamwork. Each participant will draw his leadership style on clear resources and leadership concepts consistent with his personality and situation. The inauguration ceremony of the programme was attended by ministers, under-secretaries and officials in the administrative apparatus of the state. — ONA
