Global fashion leaders arrive in Muscat

Global players in the fashion and luxury sectors descend in Muscat today ahead of the third edition of the world-renown Conde Nast Luxury Conference which kicks off this Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.


Titled “Mindful Luxury – Navigating the New Silk Routes”, the two-day conference will bring a diverse mix of business and creative leaders from across the world to Muscat, to explore the changing concept of “luxury” and the future of the fashion and luxury retail industry.


Fashion’s leading authority, Suzy Menkes, the International Vogue Editor will be in attendance having invented the luxury conference concept in 2001. A world renowned journalist, Menkes reaches more than 31 million unique users every month through her writing on various Vogue websites.


Speakers at the event include, world famous fashion designer Ellie Saab who hails from Lebanon; world famous Indian fashion designer Manish Arora; and Morin Oluwole, Head of Luxury, FaceBook and Instagram. Oluwole, of Nigerian origin, is one of the pioneering fashion leaders in the world, and will discuss the impact of social media in the fashion industry.


The conference will also see a number prominent local designers in attendance, including Omani fashion designer Amal Al Raisi, Founder of Dar Al Aseel fashion house. Amal established her business 10 years ago and is known for her unique Omani traditional designs mixed with international fashion trends to blend past with future.


In addition, HH Princess Deena Al Juhani Abdulaziz, Editor in Chief of Vogue Arabia; Noor Faris, Founder of Noor Faris; Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman and Chief Executive of Conde Nast International; and Sophie Hackford, Future Thinker, will also be in attendance.


Oman is a destination synonymous with rich heritage, robust cultural roots and a strong sense of identity featured with generosity and tolerance. This event is an ideal platform to showcase the Sultanate’s authentic cultural diversity in fashion and lifestyle.


In addition, the conference will highlight the Omani talented youth in the fashion sector and will provide them with a chance to meet with the international leaders and counterparts to exchange expertise and to discuss business opportunities.


The conference is organised by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with Omani leading institutions, including OmanAir, Omran, Omantel, Bank Muscat, Saraya Bandar Jissah, Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC), Muscat Free Duty and Khimji Ramdas.
