MUSCAT: The number of procedures required for obtaining a construction permit has now dropped from 22 to just seven. While the Muscat Municipality has reduced the number of procedures, it is also likely to issue the construction permit in one day. It has streamlined the transfer of dealing from one party to another. Now, the consultation officers will be able to finalise more than one deal per day as well as increase the number of approval applications. According to Mohammed bin Hamood al Rashdi, Director of Construction Permits, one of the important steps taken was issuing a circular making it mandatory for consultation officers to present a preliminary study for the design for multi-storey buildings for review before issuing the licence. The service is free. This move is expected to make the consultant confidant about the municipality’s approval of design and also cut down on the time required for obtaining the permit.
