MUSCAT, April 23 - The Royal Oman Police (ROP) is to introduce an app that will send alerts on accidents, traffic bottlenecks and other necessary information to motorists to make driving a hazzle-free experience, cut down accidents and congestions during flash floods. “This application will send timely updates while on the road, new information to follow and other guidelines to drivers. Notifications will be sent out every 500 metres ahead of traffic bottlenecks and at times of flash floods, alerts will be sent from time to time,” said Chief of Mobile and Integration Development at the ROP.

Speaking to Observer during the opening of the 28th edition of the Comex, he said that there will be more services added to the existing ROP website as part of the total revamp. “We are boosting ROP’s online presence to add more services and to make it more user-friendly. This will minimise the hardships of people in visiting and standing in queues at various departments of the Royal Oman Police,” he said. As an addition to the ROP’s online services, there will be a specially designed mobile application for the specially-abled people and people with disabilities.

Physically challenged people, who cannot call the emergency number, or go to a nearby police station and report an incident, will get all the services on this app. “There is a plan to come out with a new app by August where all services for physically challenged or people with special needs will be offered.” Further, this app will help in booking an appointment with the police department concerned for all your needs such as renewing driving licence, vehicle registration, visa renewal, resident card renewal and all other services with the ROP. While the traditional visas will remain, the Sultanate is planning to add more segments to e-visa platform.

Accordingly, e-visa for workers will be launched by this year, according to Lt Col Abdullah bin Said al Kalbani, Project Manager of e-visa. “We are going to have the ‘Labourers Visa’ to be included in the e-visa programme soon, mostly by end of this year,” he said. At present, e-visa is issued for 5 categories of applicants such as Multiple-Entry, Express, Unsponsored visa, Sponsored Visa and GCC residents visa. “We are working on visa online for workers in cooperation with the Ministry of Manpower and other related authorities,” he added. Currently, people from around 97 countries are eligible to use visa on arrival service.
