Germany’s Lidl looks to lure US shoppers

Virginia Beach: Lidl on Thursday will celebrate the grand opening of 10 stores in three south-eastern US states, marking the German discount grocery store chain’s arrival in the US market.
The new Lidl stores set to open their doors are in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The company hopes the lure of low prices, less complexity and speciality items like freshly baked bread will be the keys to success as they have been in other countries. Lidl already operates more than 10,000 branches in 27 countries. — dpa
