Geographic Information System workshop held

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health’s Directorate General for Planning & Studies represented by Geographic Information System organized on Monday at the Continues Professional Development centre (CPD) a workshop on Geographic Information System (GIS) and utilisations.


Dr Ahmed Al Qasmi, Director-General of Planning in his inaugural speech pointed out that the Sultanate has attached a great importance to Information system especially in the health sector giving the fact that most health facts are built on information, data, and statistics. Consequently, the Ministry has sought to introduce technology and facilitate information access by forming the Directorate General for Information Technology into its organisational structure.


The workshop included several presentations on GIS advantages, applications, and its role in the MoH. The workshop illustrated health data management as well as Geographic Information System. Furthermore, three presentations were given by ESRI Company, which is a pioneer on GIS mapping and analytics software. The workshop aims at introducing the participants with the GIS and raising awareness on its usages in the different domains.
