MUSCAT: Li Shufu, the Founder and Chairman of Geely Holding Group, has been named “Man Best 2017” by Autobest, the largest independent automotive jury in Europe, representing 31 countries and 630 million readers.

The annual awards were presented at the Autobest Gala 2018 in Salzburg’s historic Karl Böhm Saal in Austria, recently.

About 95 per cent of the European population is represented through the jury’s many international motoring media outlets.

Li Shufu heads the expansive and growing Geely automotive group, integrating leading brands from across the globe that include Volvo Cars, Proton, Lotus and London Taxi. The group has also embarked on the launch of a revolutionary approach to the car market with the new Lynk & Co brand – which is already established as a top seller in China, just weeks after going on sale.

More recently, the group completed the acquisition of Terrafugia, a remarkable startup for flying cars from California, USA.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Dan Vardie, Founder and Chairman of Autobest, said: “Li Shufu is a great example of a visionary in the automotive industry, proving that with the right strategy, determination and bravery, success will follow. Li and Geely are the first Chinese winners in the 17 years of Autobest awards. Our jury of 31 leading automotive product journalists are a very tough panel, and it shows how far China and Geely has come in this industry in terms of quality, engineering, design, technology and clever marketing to win over these seasoned motoring critics.”

In Oman, Geely Holding Group is represented by Towell Auto Centre (TAC), the sole distributor of Geely cars, that believes in always offering something new to its customers.

A spokesperson of Towell Auto Centre (TAC) said, “We are overwhelmed that visionary Li Shufu, head of the Geely Holding Group, has won the prestigious award which he truly deserves.

Geely believes in continuous innovation and customers here in Oman stand to gain.

Be it the modern aerodynamic styling and safety through the acquisition of Volvo cars and its design chief, Peter Horbury, joining Geely or the technology of the iconic London Taxi, Lotus and Proton brands, Geely stands apart.

Now customers will continue to benefit from the pioneering new flying car technology of Terrafugia which has been taken over by Geely.”
